Travis Kelce Explains Why He Took Over for Taylor Swift’s Security, Says He’s ‘Protective’ on Dates
The NFL star broke down the coverage of his weekend in New York City on the new episode of his “New Heights” podcast
Travis Kelce is breaking down the coverage of his whirlwind weekend in New York City with Taylor Swift.
On the new episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, the Kansas City Chiefs star, 34, set the record straight on his interaction with the music superstar’s security detail, whose every move was documented in detail by paparazzi cameras as the new couple enjoyed two dinner dates and the Saturday Night Live afterparty.
“I feel like whenever I’m on a date, I’m always having the sense that I’m the man in the situation, I’m like protective,” Travis said. “You always kind of have that feeling or self-awareness I guess.”
And as he took Swift, 33, to and from their car at the various destinations, Travis said he made sure to look out for her security as much as they were looking out for the couple.
When Jason, 35, asked his brother if he got any “pushback” about helping the 12-time Grammy award-winning singer in and out of the car and using his arm to do so, Travis declined the penalty, so to speak.
“I didn’t push him, I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him,” Travis said about the security guard. “If I would have pushed him he probably would have turned around and tased me.”
He added about the security: “They’re great, they’re great, they’re good people.”
The Chiefs tight end also talked about the fans who noticed the way he held Swift’s hand.
“They caught me with some weird hand-holding poses there,” Travis said. “It was crazy.”
Elsewhere on the podcast, the NFL star divulged more about his star-studded weekend with Swift including their “awesome” cameos on SNL, as he called the experience “spectacular.”
“It was electric to be back in that place. There is just something about being in that room. And being their first episode this season, I had such a freaking blast man,” he said before thanking the show’s producer, Lorne Michaels, for welcoming him and Swift.
